This elegant square at the end of the pedestrian Váci utca is the heart of Pest's shopping district. The Gerbeaud café occupies one corner — its chandeliers and pastries have been drawing crowds since 1858. The square hosts a popular Christmas market in winter and is the northern terminus of the M1 metro, continental Europe's oldest underground railway.
