IKON is the most ambitious modern restaurant in Debrecen, a slightly self-conscious "bistronomy" operation just off Piac utca that takes Hungarian regional ingredients — mangalica pork, grey cattle from the Hortobágy, river fish from the Tisza — and gives them a contemporary tasting-menu treatment. The dining room is calm and white-walled, the service well-drilled.
Prices are very reasonable for the quality on the plate, particularly if you take the lunchtime set menu. Reservations recommended at weekends. They take the wine list seriously, with a strong Tokaj and Eger selection.
