Eger is about 130 kilometres northeast of Budapest and is reached by train from Keleti station in Budapest. The journey takes about two hours and trains run roughly every two hours during the day. The InterCity service is faster than regional trains; book in advance for reserved seating.
By car, Eger is reached via the M3 motorway east from Budapest, then north on the Route 25. The drive takes about 90 minutes in good conditions. There is parking near the castle and in the town centre.
Eger has no airport. The nearest airport is Budapest Liszt Ferenc (BUD), which is connected to the city centre by the Airport Shuttle and metro.
