The hills north of Eger in the Bükk National Park are excellent for hiking. The thermal spa town of Egerszalók is ten kilometres south and worth a half-day for the dramatic white salt hill and modern spa complex. The wine town of Tokaj is about 80 kilometres east and makes a longer day trip for those interested in Hungary's other great wine region.
