Egerszalók

Northern Hungarian spa village where hot mineral water builds white terraces below the Bükk foothills.

Egerszalók is a small village in the Bükk foothills of northern Hungary, about ten kilometres from Eger, known for its spectacular salt-hill thermal spring. Hot water at 68°C rises to the surface from deep underground and cascades down a hillside, depositing white calcium carbonate terraces that look strikingly similar to Pamukkale in Turkey — one of the most unusual natural formations in Hungary.

The Saliris Resort spa complex has been built around the springs, offering indoor and outdoor thermal pools, wellness treatments, and a water park. The thermal water is rich in minerals and reputed to help with joint and skin conditions. The village sits in the Eger wine region, and the famous cellars of the Valley of the Beautiful Women (Szépasszony-völgy) in Eger are a short drive away — making a soak in the thermal baths and an afternoon tasting Egri Bikavér (Bull's Blood) an excellent combination.
