Kőszeg's wine bar scene is centred on the streets around Jurisics tér, where a handful of small places pour local Kékfrankos and Zweigelt by the glass. The local Kékfrankos — identical to Austria's Blaufränkisch — is the wine of choice: medium-bodied, cherry-fruited, and honest. Several wine bars also stock bottles from nearby producers in the Kőszeg Hills. This is wine-country drinking at its most unfussy: a glass, a wooden table, and a warm evening in a medieval square.
