Kőszeg has a modest but reliable selection of restaurants concentrated around Jurisics tér and the streets leading to the castle. The food is solidly Hungarian — pörkölt (pork or beef stew), paprika-heavy dishes, fresh bread, and good soups. Fish from local rivers appears on many menus. Portions are generous and prices are low by Western European standards.
Several restaurants have terraces on or near the main square, which is a pleasant place to eat in warm weather. Book ahead on summer weekends, particularly if there is a festival or historical event taking place.
