Church of the Sacred Heart

The Church of the Sacred Heart (Jézus Szíve-templom) is the dominant building on Jurisics tér, Kőszeg's main square. Originally built as a Jesuit church in the 17th century, it was rebuilt and expanded in the late 19th century in a Historicist-Gothic style. The interior is richly decorated with frescoes, carved wooden pews, and a large organ. The church's bells are among those that ring daily at 11am to commemorate the 1532 siege of Kőszeg — a tradition maintained for nearly five centuries.
