Balaton Uplands National Park

Balaton Uplands National Park protects a patchwork of volcanic hills, wetlands, vineyards, and north-shore landscapes around Lake Balaton, including the Tihany Peninsula. It is not a single gate-and-ticket park, but a scattered protected area that rewards walkers, cyclists, and birdwatchers.

From Tihany, the park is most visible in the volcanic lakes, reed beds, and dry ridges of the peninsula itself. If you have a car, continue into the uplands behind Balatonfüred for a less crowded version of Balaton: stone villages, wine cellars, and views back down to the lake.
