The Tihany Echo is one of those small old-fashioned sights that survives because generations of visitors were told to try it. From the right spot near the abbey hillside, a shout once bounced cleanly back from the buildings and slopes across the village.
Modern construction and trees have softened the effect, so do not expect a dramatic acoustic trick. The viewpoint is still worth the short detour, and the story gives a little human scale to a village that can otherwise feel dominated by the abbey.
