Széchenyi Square

Széchenyi Square is the larger, newer main square outside the inner ring of the old town — the city's principal public open space and a pleasant place to sit. It is surrounded by a mix of Baroque and 19th-century buildings, including the former County Hall. The square connects the inner old town with the city's commercial streets and the railway station to the south.

The square is overlooked by the Trinity Column (Szentháromság-szobor), a Baroque plague column erected in the 18th century of the kind found throughout Hungary and Austria. Markets and outdoor events are held here through the summer. It is less visited than Fő Tér but more genuinely everyday — a place where locals sit, children run around, and the city's ordinary life proceeds.
