Komárom-Esztergom County Museum

The county museum (Tatabányai Múzeum) covers the broader history of Komárom-Esztergom county, including Roman finds from the limes along the Danube, medieval material from Tata Castle, and the industrial archaeology of the coal basin. Exhibits are housed in a modern purpose-built building near the city centre.

The displays are uneven but a few rooms are very good. The collection of mining equipment, miners' lamps, and union banners is particularly thorough, and the temporary exhibitions are often more ambitious than you would expect in a town this size.
