The pedestrianised Óváros tér — Old Town Square — at the foot of the Castle Hill is the social heart of Veszprém in the evening. A handful of cafés and bars have tables outside in summer, and the square fills up after work and after the church bells have stopped. For more substantial drinking, the area around the university to the south is younger and busier.
