By train. Veszprém is on the rail line between Budapest and the western corner of Hungary at Szombathely. Direct trains from Budapest (Déli pályaudvar) take about two hours; from Győr a little less. The train station is about a kilometre east of the centre.
By bus. Buses connect Veszprém to most towns in western Hungary and run more frequently than the trains. The bus station is in the centre, an easy walk to the Castle District.
By car. The M7 motorway from Budapest comes within 15 km of Veszprém at the Balatonalmádi exit. About 100 km, an hour and a half. Parking in the lower town is straightforward and free for short stays; on the Castle Hill there is a small car park near the cathedral.
