The Star Coffeehouse — a long-standing café on the corner of Óváros tér — keeps something of the look of a classical Hungarian kávéház: marble-topped tables, dark wooden chairs, glass-fronted cabinets of cakes. The coffee is reliable, the cakes good, and the staff cheerful.
It is the obvious mid-morning stop between the lower town and the Castle Hill. In summer the tables spread across the square and the place takes on a livelier atmosphere into the evening.
