Named for the Veszprém-born hunter-naturalist Kálmán Kittenberger, who spent decades collecting specimens in East Africa for European museums, the city's zoo is among the better in Hungary. It sits in a wooded park about a kilometre south of the centre and houses some 130 species, with a particular emphasis on Africa.
The zoo is a popular family outing, especially in summer, and the wooded setting means even a busy day feels reasonably uncrowded. Allow two to three hours.
