Thorbergssetur is a small but distinctive stop on the Ring Road east of Jokulsarlon and west of Hofn. The museum is dedicated to the Icelandic writer Thorbergur Thordarson, but it also opens a window onto Sudursveit, the farms, coast, and glacier-edge communities of southeast Iceland.
It works especially well in bad weather or between glacier stops, when a warm interior and a local story are welcome. The building's book-spine facade is playful, but the real value is the reminder that this landscape has literary and farm history as well as ice.
