Bars and Cafes

Dingle is famous for having an absurd number of pubs for a town its size — somewhere between forty and fifty depending on how you count — and most of them serve as informal venues for traditional music every night of the summer. The sessions tend to start late (around nine or nine-thirty), are unamplified, and are the real thing rather than the curated kind you find in the bigger Irish cities.

Dick Mack's and John Benny's are the two most-talked-about pubs in town and deserve the reputation. An Droichead Beag ("the small bridge") on Lower Main Street has nightly trad sessions and tolerates a fair amount of dancing on the flagstones. Foxy John's is the wonderful old hardware-shop-and-pub combination where you can buy wellingtons and a pint without leaving the bar.

For coffee, My Boy Blue on Holyground does the best espresso in town and Bean in Dingle on Green Street is the morning meeting spot for locals. Murphy's Ice Cream is essentially a town institution and should be visited at least once.
