Statue of Luke Kelly

Striking portrait sculpture of the Dubliners singer

This arresting white marble portrait of Luke Kelly, the firebrand singer of the Dubliners, stands on Sheriff Street Upper near the Royal Canal, not far from where he grew up on the north docks. Carved by the artist Vera Klute and unveiled in 2019, it captures Kelly's famous halo of curly hair as a wild explosion of strands around his upturned face.

The sculpture has become a small place of pilgrimage for fans of Irish folk music, who leave the occasional flower at its base. It is an easy detour for anyone exploring the Docklands and a reminder of the working-class neighbourhood that lay here long before the glass towers arrived.
