Enniskerry is an excellent base for walking in the Wicklow Mountains, one of the largest upland areas in Ireland and just 30 kilometres from Dublin. Several well-marked trails start from or near the village. The Wicklow Way, Ireland's first long-distance walking route, passes through the hills above the village; the section from Enniskerry south towards Glendalough is one of the more popular day walks in the country.
For shorter walks, the Glencullen River valley behind the village gives pleasant riverside walking through mixed woodland. The summit of the Sugar Loaf (501m), visible to the south, can be reached in about two hours from the village on a clear track; the views from the top extend to Dublin Bay and the Mourne Mountains on a clear day. The Knocksink Wood Nature Reserve, a couple of kilometres north, has marked trails through native woodland.
