One of the most authentic Victorian pubs left in Ireland, Tynan's has been serving since 1703 and barely changed since the 1920s. The interior is protected by a preservation order, and for good reason: the original gas lamps, pharmacy drawers behind the bar, and grocery scales are all still in place. It is a genuine time capsule, not a themed recreation. The pub sits right on John's Bridge overlooking the River Nore, with Kilkenny Castle a short walk upstream. A quiet pint here is one of the best things you can do in Kilkenny.
