Day Trips

The Ring of Kerry is the most popular day trip from Killarney — the 179-kilometre coastal drive circles the Iveragh Peninsula and passes through small towns, coastal scenery, and mountain passes. It can be done by car, coach tour, or bicycle (the latter taking two to three days). Most coach tours go anticlockwise to avoid meeting buses on narrow roads.

Kenmare is an attractive market town 34 km south of Killarney, well worth stopping in for lunch. Dingle, on the adjacent Dingle Peninsula, takes about 90 minutes by car from Killarney and offers its own coastline and the Slea Head Drive. The Ring of Beara — another coastal driving route, less visited than the Ring of Kerry — starts near Kenmare.
