Kerry has one of the mildest climates in Ireland, warmed by the Gulf Stream, but it is also one of the wettest — the mountains catch a great deal of rain from Atlantic weather systems. Summer (June to August) is the warmest and busiest time; the town fills with visitors and prices rise. The upside is long evenings, with daylight until after 10 pm in late June.
May and September are often the best months to visit: fewer crowds, lower prices, and the landscape is still green and lush. The autumn colours in the national park in October can be spectacular. Winter is quiet — most visitor facilities still operate, but the town is much calmer and the prices drop considerably. Snow is rare at lake level but common on the higher mountain peaks.
