Douglas War Memorial

The Douglas War Memorial stands at the north end of the promenade and commemorates the men and women of the Isle of Man who died in the two World Wars. The rolls of names are extensive for so small a population — the island suffered heavily in both conflicts, and the memorial is a reminder that the Isle of Man's self-governance has always coexisted with deep ties to the British crown and its wars.

The memorial is a dignified structure in a prominent position, and the view back along the promenade from here — with the Victorian terraces and the bay — is one of the better photographs to be had from the seafront.
