Douglas itself is walkable — most of the sights are within easy walking distance of the promenade. Bus services connect the town to the rest of the island. The Isle of Man Steam Railway runs south to Port Erin, and the Manx Electric Railway runs north along the coast to Ramsey and has a junction with the Snaefell Mountain Railway at Laxey. A combined Heritage Railways ticket covers all three rail services and is excellent value for a day's exploration.
