Museo Civico (Pinacoteca)

Civic art museum and picture gallery in a historic palazzo

The Museo Civico of Teramo is the city's picture gallery, with works from the fifteenth to the twentieth century — strong on Abruzzese painters and including some good examples of the Neapolitan Baroque that travelled north along the coast. The collection is housed in a handsomely restored historic palazzo just off the central piazza.

Like most provincial Italian civic museums, it is unhurried, quiet and rewarding for those willing to slow down. Highlights include several panels by the Maestro di Campli and a small group of nineteenth-century paintings from the Abruzzese school. Free or very cheap entry; closed Mondays.
