Piazza Martiri della Libertà

Teramo's central square, ringed by the cathedral and the town hall

Piazza Martiri della Libertà — usually just called Piazza Duomo by locals — is the social and historical centre of Teramo. The cathedral closes the southern end, the town hall faces it from the north, and the cafés along the eastern flank are the city's main outdoor sitting room.

The square is small, paved with worn limestone, and surprisingly intimate. Late afternoons fill it with the local passeggiata; market days and political rallies use the same space. It's the right place to start or end a walk through Teramo's centre.
