By air: Naples has its own international airport, Aeroporto Capodichino (NAP), about 5 km from the centre. Flights connect to most major European cities. The Alibus airport shuttle runs to Piazza Garibaldi (central station) and Piazza Municipio near the port; a taxi to the centre takes 20 minutes and costs around €20.
By train: Napoli Centrale on Piazza Garibaldi is the main station. High-speed Frecciarossa trains connect Naples to Rome in just over an hour, and to Milan in under four. Trenitalia and Italo both serve the route; book ahead for cheaper fares. Trains also run to Salerno, Caserta, and Bari.
By ferry: Naples is a major ferry hub. From Molo Beverello (a short walk from Piazza Municipio), ferries and hydrofoils run to Capri, Ischia, Procida, and Sorrento. Overnight ferries to Palermo and Cagliari depart from Calata Porta di Massa, nearby.
By car: The A1 motorway connects Rome to Naples (230 km, about 2.5 hours). Driving in Naples itself is not recommended — traffic is anarchic and parking is difficult. Leave the car at a hotel outside the centre or use a garage near the port.
