Getting Around

The historic centre is entirely walkable — the Via dei Mercanti, the cathedral, and the Castello di Arechi climb are all within a reasonable walk of each other. The lungomare stretches for several kilometres and is flat; bicycles can be hired for this section.

For the Amalfi Coast: ferries from the port are the most comfortable option in season. Buses (SITA) run year-round and are cheap but slow on the coastal road. The Circumvesuviana train from Salerno to Vietri sul Mare is useful for the ceramics town at the western edge of the coast.
