Gabicce Monte

The headland of Gabicce Monte rises immediately south of Cattolica, marking both the regional border with the Marche and the start of the cliffed Riviera del Conero-style coastline. A road climbs the headland to the small village at the top, with one of the best long views on this stretch of the Adriatic — north along the resort beaches towards Rimini, south to the wilder cliffs of San Bartolo park.

Several restaurants up here trade primarily on the view, so check that the food is actually good before committing. The lighthouse on the seaward end of the mole, just below the village, is the Faro di Gabicce Mare, still in service. The walk up from Cattolica takes about 45 minutes if you cut down to the sea on the far side.
