Viale Ceccarini

Viale Ceccarini is the main axis of Riccione, running from the seafront promenade inland through the center of town, lined with pine trees, designer boutiques, ice cream shops, cafes, and restaurants. In July and August it is one of the most lively streets on the Adriatic coast, filled from mid-morning with beach-goers in various stages of dress and undress, and again from around seven in the evening with the passeggiata crowd.

The shops along the viale range from high-end Italian fashion to beach gear, with a density of gelaterias and aperitivo bars calibrated to the demands of a resort town in full summer operation. Even if you are not a shopper, walking the viale in the evening is worth doing simply to see the social ritual of the Italian summer holiday at full intensity.

A story
The viale is named after Ceccarini, the landowner who developed much of central Riccione in the early 20th century. He designed the street with unusually wide pavements and planted it with trees specifically to encourage the passeggiata — the Italian evening walk — and the practice has never died out. On summer evenings the viale is so full of people that walking in a straight line becomes difficult.
