The Lago dell'EUR was built for the 1960 Rome Olympics and provides the neighbourhood's most human-scaled pleasure: a 2.2km loop around a long artificial lake set in a leafy park. The Japan Promenade (Passeggiata del Giappone) along the western bank is lined with cherry trees donated by Tokyo, spectacular in late March and early April during Hanami. The Giardino delle Cascate at the southern end adds a glass-floored bridge over a waterfall garden. Free, open year-round, and a welcome break from EUR's marble weight.
