Ponte Sisto

Ponte Sisto is the graceful pedestrian bridge between Trastevere and the historic centre, rebuilt for Pope Sixtus IV in the late 15th century on the site of an older Roman crossing. Its single round opening in the central pier was designed to ease pressure from floodwater on the Tiber.

It is one of Rome's best small crossings: useful by day and especially atmospheric in the evening, when the walk between Campo de' Fiori and Trastevere fills with people.
