San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane

San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane is a compact Baroque church designed by Francesco Borromini. It was his first independent commission, and its small size makes the architectural invention easier to read than in many larger Roman churches.

The church is worth a deliberate stop for the oval interior, tight geometric planning, and the way Borromini turns a difficult corner site into one of Rome's most admired Baroque spaces.
