Focacceria on Via della Repubblica

Bakery and focaccia shop near the harbour

Camogli's main street, Via della Repubblica, has several focaccerie and bakeries selling the Ligurian staples: plain focaccia glistening with olive oil and sea salt, focaccia al formaggio similar to Recco's version, farinata (chickpea flour flatbread), and torte di verdura filled with chard, onion, or artichoke. This is not sit-down eating — buy a square at the counter and eat it standing, or take it down to the harbour wall.

The bakers open early and the focaccia is best warm from the oven in the first two hours after opening. A generous slice of plain focaccia costs around two euros and makes an ideal breakfast before a morning hike over the headland. Farinata is a lunch thing; most places only make it around midday.
