The old quarter is where La Spezia's medieval character survives: narrow twisting streets, old buildings with Lombard-era traces, and a pace that feels a world away from the broad avenues nearby. The pedestrianised Via del Prione runs through the heart of it, lined with small shops and stalls. Piazza Sant'Agostino, with its quiet elegance, is the natural place to sit and take it in.
