Porto Mirabello is La Spezia's modern marina and waterfront area, carved out of the naval base edge and developed in the 2000s. It's not historic and it won't win any architecture prizes, but it's a pleasant place to walk along the water in the evening, with the Gulf of La Spezia opening up ahead and the forested hills of the Cinque Terre visible in the distance to the right.
The harbour has a good concentration of restaurants and bars with outdoor terraces facing the water. It's the place locals come to walk the dog or have an early evening beer while watching the light change on the gulf. Ferries to Porto Venere and the Cinque Terre villages depart from the main pier at Molo Italia, a short walk from Porto Mirabello.
