The free public beaches in Sanremo are scattered between the private stabilimenti along the central waterfront and extend further east toward the marina. They are narrow strips of pebble and coarse sand but the water is clean and the swimming is easy. Arrive early in July and August to secure a spot; outside the peak summer months they are much quieter.
The long coastal cycling path (Pista Ciclabile) runs parallel to the beach, which makes it easy to combine a cycle ride with a swim. The beach east of the harbour, near the Capo Verde headland, is less crowded than the central stretch and can be reached on foot or by bicycle along the path.
