Sanremo's beaches are a mixture of private stabilimenti (paying beach clubs with sun loungers and umbrellas) and small stretches of free public beach. The private clubs dominate the central seafront. The free beaches are narrower and simpler but perfectly usable.
The water along this stretch of the Riviera is clear and calm, sheltered by the headlands at either end of the bay. The main bathing season runs from late May through September.
