Osteria Perricci

Long-established trattoria in the old town

Run by the Perricci family since 1900, this is one of the oldest restaurants in Puglia and a Monopoli institution. The dining room is plain and the cooking unfussy — orecchiette with broccoli rabe, fresh anchovies marinated in lemon, baked fish in salt crust — but the ingredients are good and the prices fair. A full meal with house wine runs around €30 a head.

The location, on a lane between Piazza Garibaldi and the harbour, is convenient without being touristy. Locals come for Sunday lunch; expect to wait if you turn up without booking on a weekend.
