Eating Out

Taranto has a strong seafood tradition centered on its most famous product: cozze tarantine, the mussels cultivated in the Mar Piccolo for centuries. You will find them grilled, steamed, fried, or incorporated into pasta and rice dishes throughout the city. The local seafood market near the old town bridge is worth visiting in the morning. The cuisine is broadly Pugliese — orecchiette with broccoli rabe, fave e cicoria — but the marine emphasis is stronger here than inland.
