Spring and autumn are the best seasons for Agrigento. In February and March, almond trees across the Valle dei Templi bloom white and pink — the Sagra del Mandorlo in Fiore (Almond Blossom Festival) takes place in February and fills the temple ridge with folk music groups from across the Mediterranean. In October and November the light is golden, the crowds have thinned, and temperatures are comfortable.
Summer is hot and the Valley of the Temples is exposed — go early (the park opens at 9am) before the heat builds. July and August bring Italian tourists down from Palermo and the interior, which makes San Leone beach and the town's restaurants busy. The temples themselves close during the hottest part of the afternoon in peak season. Winter is quiet and cool with occasional rain; the temples look spectacular after rain, the limestone washed clean.
