Agrigento sits close to some rewarding destinations. Selinunte makes a particularly good day trip — it has as many temple ruins as Agrigento itself, including one fully reconstructed, plus an acropolis and a necropolis. In February the wildflowers are already spectacular. Caltabellotta, a dramatic hilltop village perched above Sciacca, is reachable by bus and worth the winding ride up the mountain.
