Palazzo Villadorata on Via Cavour is the most elaborate residential palace in Noto, built around 1730 for the Nicolaci family (one of the leading aristocratic families of post-earthquake Noto). The facade is an extravaganza of Baroque invention: the famous corbelled balconies with their extraordinary carved supports, the deeply modelled window frames, the interplay of convex and concave surfaces. It is one of the definitive examples of Sicilian Baroque domestic architecture.
The piano nobile (main floor) is occasionally open for visits and contains original 18th-century furnishings, frescoed ceilings, and a library. Check locally for opening times, which are irregular. The street in front of the palace (Via Infiorata) hosts the famous Infiorata flower festival in May, when the paving is covered in elaborate flower-petal pictures.
