Getting There

The nearest airports are Catania Fontanarossa (about 60 km north) and Palermo (240 km west). Catania is the more practical choice for Siracusa; regular buses run between the two cities, taking about 1 hour 20 minutes. Interbus and Etna Trasporti operate frequent departures. The bus stops near the archaeological park and continues to Ortigia.

By train, Siracusa is connected to Catania (1 hour 10 minutes) and to the rest of Sicily. The train station sits on the mainland side of the city, a ten-minute walk from the Ortigia bridge. Connections from Palermo require a change at Catania or Messina and take most of the day.

By car, Siracusa is easily reached from Catania on the A18 motorway (exit Siracusa). Parking on Ortigia is extremely limited; park on the mainland and walk across the bridge. There are several fee parking areas near the bridge.
