Naumachie

The Naumachie is a long Roman brick structure in the centre of Taormina, running for about 120 metres behind later buildings. It was once thought to be a basin for staged naval battles, but is more likely to have formed part of a large nymphaeum or water system.

The remains are easy to miss and do not take long to see, but they are one of the better traces of Roman Taormina away from the famous theatre.
