Things to Do

Taormina's main act is the Greek Theatre, one of the best-preserved in the world and with a backdrop — Etna steaming, sea glittering below — that no architect could have designed. Beyond that, the town is a well-worn tourist circuit: the Corso Umberto, the views, the beaches below. It is beautiful, expensive, and crowded in summer. Visit early morning or in the off-season and it remains extraordinary.
