The town centre is compact and most sights are within comfortable walking distance. The Passerpromenade and Winterpromenade along the river are the main pedestrian axes. Buses connect the centre to surrounding villages including Lagundo (for the cable car to Tyrol Castle) and the Merano 2000 cable car base station.
The Trauttmansdorff Castle Gardens are a 20-minute walk from the town centre (or a short bus ride). A free shuttle bus runs between the castle and the town during peak season. Cycling along the Passirio river valley is popular — bike rental is available in several places in the town centre.
