Merano's microclimate makes it pleasant for most of the year. Spring (April–May) is the most beautiful season: the surrounding orchards are in blossom, the mountains above still have snow, and the town is busy but not overcrowded. The Merano Flower Festival in April is one of the more scenic events in the South Tyrol.
Summer is warm (25–30°C in the valley) and popular with hikers and families, with the Merano 2000 cable car running up to the mountain plateau above for hiking and cycling. Autumn brings the grape harvest — the hillside vineyards turn gold and red, and the local wine cooperatives hold open days. The Merano Wine Festival in November is a significant event in the Italian wine calendar.
Winter is mild by alpine standards and the Advent market (late November–December) is one of the best in South Tyrol. Skiing at Merano 2000 is limited but the resort is quiet compared to larger ski areas nearby.
