The Convent de Le Celle is a Franciscan hermitage tucked into the wooded slopes outside Cortona. Tradition links the site with Saint Francis himself, and the stone cells, little bridges, and streamside terraces still feel more like a retreat than a monument.
It is one of the best short trips from Cortona if you want something quieter than another hill-town church. Walk if you have time and legs for the climb, or go by car and leave space for silence; the site rewards slow looking more than checklist sightseeing.
